The Alleghany County office of Virginia Cooperative Extension is your local connection to Virginia's land-grant universities, Virginia Tech and Virginia State University.

Through educational programs based on research and developed with input from local stakeholders, we help the people of Alleghany County improve their lives.

We provide education through programs in Agriculture and Natural Resources, Family and Consumer Sciences, 4-H Youth Development, and Community Viability.

Master Gardener Class starting March 31st in Alleghany County

This is an online course with the majority of classes being field trips and hands-on experiences. The $125 fee for the program includes Master Gardener Handbook, one year membership in the local Master Gardener Association and all program materials.   

Class topics include pruning, landscape design, perennials, annuals, woody ornamentals, vegetables, fruits, soils, insect and disease identification, and many others.
