The Spring Hill 4-H Club held their monthly meeting on January 18th at the Spring Hill Presbyterian Church.
To begin the meeting we shared some 4-H fact trivia. We learned that 4-H had its beginning in 1902. In 1911, 4-H adopted the green four leaf clover as their symbol.  4-H clubs and programs are provided for under the Extension Service which was created by a Congressional mandate in 1914.
Our educational program centered around pets. We learned how to keep our pets healthly and safe.
Our next meeting is scheduled for February 15th.

March 15th Meeting

In keeping with the veterinary theme for our project this year, our club took a field trip to the Blue Ridge Community College School of Veterinary Technology on March 15.
Gail Foley from the BRCC Veterinary Technology Program was guide our and presenter for the evening. We saw a slide show about veterinarians and we got to see the surgical suite where the animals have surgery. We  looked at the pictures of dogs who had good hips and bad ones. Ms. Foley showed us real skeletons of different animals and we had to guess which animal it was. There was also a skeleton of a cow and we tried to put it together. We were taken to the barn and she explained about some of the tools that they use. We then took apart a fake cow and put it back together again. It was awesome!

The next meeting is scheduled for April 19th at Spring Hill Presbyterian Church. New members are always welcome.

The Springhill 4-H Club had their monthly meeting on April 19 at the Springhill Presbyterian Church.
4-H member Carey Layman gave us a demonstration on lambs. We learned how to judge sheep by their upper and lower parts of their body. We all got a chance to walk the sheep too! Carey also showed us pictures of hogs and steers. She also showed us her awards that she has won during her years in 4-H.
