Family and Consumer Sciences
The family unit is the cornerstone of a healthy community. Family and Consumer Sciences programs provide families with research-based knowledge designed to improve wellness through positive changes. There are many aspects of overall wellness including family and human development, financial management, nutrition, and health throughout the life span. Through a holistic approach, Family and Consumer Science (FCS) agents, program assistants, and trained volunteers provide education that ensures Virginia families have every piece of the puzzle to be healthy and whole.
FCS programming is driven by the needs of the community- identified by Caroline County residents. Programs are delivered through seminars, workshops, publications, personal consultation, and the Internet. Pegi Wright is the FCS Extension Agent in Caroline County and serves in the following program areas:
Financial Education ~ Teaches how to manage your money more successfully through personal financial assessments and workshops. Clients can receive education on developing and using a spending plan, debt reduction, saving for the future, identity theft prevention, renting, homeownership, foreclosure prevention, bankruptcy (court mandated course) and other financial concerns.
Family and Human Development Education ~ Includes programs to improve the quality of life of individuals and families ---from the elderly to kids, from single parents to couples. Classes are offered in child development and parenting young children and teens (including court ordered), babysitting, and aging issues.
Nutrition and Health Education~ Offers many programs to help children, youth, and adults establish and maintain healthy diets to prevent chronic diseases and obesity.

CAROLINE COUNTY CHILD CARE RESOURCE & REFERRAL~ educates parents on the importance of recognizing quality childcare programs. In addition, the agency provides professional development opportunities to childcare providers to maintain state licensing credentials. Contact: Debbie Larimer
CAROLINE FAMILY & COMMUNTY EDUCATION CLUB~ a grass roots, volunteer organization which deals with family issues before they become leading social concerns. Contact: Pegi Wright
FAMILY NUTRITION PROGRAM ~ sponsored by the USDA Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and provides nutrition education to limited resource individuals and families in Caroline County. Contact: Beth Jimenez
