Through educational programs based on research and developed with input from local stakeholders, we help the people of Chesapeake improve their lives.

We provide education through programs in Agriculture and Natural Resources, Family and Consumer Sciences, 4-H Youth Development, and Community Viability.

2012 Livestock Show and Sale

This year will mark the 63rd Annual Chesapeake 4-H Livestock Club Show and Sale which will be held at the Chesapeake Jubilee, Thursday, May 17, 2012 and Friday, May 18, 2012. The primary purpose of the 4-H Livestock Youth Program is to provide an opportunity for personal growth and development. Through participation in livestock projects, youth are taught how to feed, fit and show their animals. The livestock program is a signature example of the 4-H theme "learn by doing".

2012 Plant-A-Row

Plant-A- Row is a program that provides fruit or vegetable growers an opportunity to bring in their excess produce.    Even if you are not a grower you can still participate in Plant-A-Row by donating pantry items.   All canned and boxed items are welcomed and appreciated.

2012 Commercial Pesticide

The 2012 Commercial Pesticide Applicator Recertification Program will be June 14, 2012 at the Chesapeake Central Library.

2012 Rain Barrel Workshops

Want to learn about the many uses of a rain barrel and how to build one yourself?  If so, then plan on attending one of the Build A Rain Barrel classes being offered by the Department of Agriculture, Chesapeake Master Gardener Volunteers and Public Works Department.

The registration fee includes a barrel, supplies and help with assembly and handouts.  The 2012 registration form is available now with classes being held every third Saturday from March – October.
