Great Plants at the Chesterfield Arboretum

A Joint Project of Chesterfield County Extension and Parks & Recreation

The Arboretum was established at Rockwood Park, which is located at the intersection of Hull Street and Courthouse Road in Chesterfield County. The purpose of the Arboretum is to demonstrate unique specimen trees and shrubs that can be grown successfully in the landscape. Twenty different varieties of trees and nine different varieties of shrubs have been planted to exhibit different growth patterns, textures, colors, and sizes that are available for the landscape setting. Signage designates each plant with the common and botanical name and a brochure is available at the site which lists the individual characteristics of each plant.

This project is a cooperative effort between the Chesterfield Extension Office and the Parks and Recreation Department. Initial funding came from a grant from the Virginia Department of Forestry and additional funding was received from private donations.

The Arboretum is open to the public during regular park hours on a daily basis. For additional information, contact the Chesterfield Extension Office (804) 751-4401
