Get Involved

Virginia Cooperative Extension relies on volunteers to accomplish its mission. We believe that active citizen involvement in our programs makes a difference in our success. The work of volunteers at the local level helps us leverage our paid faculty and staff resources into a much greater impact for the people of Virginia.

There are many ways you can get involved with us. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact us and we will be happy to discuss available opportunities.

Cumberland County Extension Leadership Council

Mission

The Mission of an Extension Leadership Council is to develop and implement a program plan that will direct Extension's resources toward the resolution of identified issues and concerns.

Vision

An Extension Leadership Council has the common mission to advance and promote Virginia Cooperative Extension's programs and presence in the local community.  The ELC's primary areas of focus include relationship building, Extension advocacy, and program advisement and support.  ELC involvement in these activities ensures that Extension's efforts remain relevant to the community. The diversity of the group enhances discussions, deliberations, and actions. In addition, there is a recognition that each person brings unique experiences and information that will contribute to the process.

Please consider joining the Cumberland Extension Council as a volunteer.  We look forward to hearing your ideas for needed programming in the county.  Your input is important in the ongoing development and implementation of pertinent extension programs.  The Cumberland ELC meets on a quarterly basis at the Cumberland public library.

Teen 4H Volunteers

The 4-H program is dedicated to youth development and teaching young people leadership and life skills.  Have you ever thought about becoming a 4-H Teen Leader?  A teen leader is a young adult between the ages of 13-19 years old, who is interested in working with youth and making a difference by being a role model!  Being a teen leader will be one of the most rewarding experiences of your life.  Teen leaders can choose to volunteer their time according to their comfort level and skills.  They can help with day camps, overnight camps, weeklong camps, horse and/or shooting clubs, afterschool programs and much more.
