4-H Saddle Club Members Participate in Overnight Clinic

The Dickenson County 4-H Saddle Club sent 15 club members to a 4-H Overnight Horseless Clinic at the 4-H Center in Abingdon, Virginia on March 27-28. Dickenson County had the largest group there. The youth learned how to do "basic record keeping" on their horses, they made dream catchers, learned about miniature horses, and learned how to rope. In the Senior division, two 4-H’ers won prizes - Joshua Cox placed 1st and Tosha Gilbert placed 3rd in roping. Taylor Yates placed 2nd in the Junior division.

The 4-H’ers also competed in a Horse Bowl where they were asked questions about horses. They learned a lot of information in regard to caring for their horses such as, the ten basic rules to feed by, and how to know if your horse is healthy. They also learned about equine manners and trailer safety. This is the largest group the Saddle Club has had to participate at one time in an event such as this. These 4-H members learned a lot in those two days and this is one trip that they will always remember.
