Virginia Cooperative Extension Celebrates the 100th Anniversary of the Smith-Lever Act
Join Virginia Cooperative Extension as it celebrates the 100th anniversary of the Smith-Lever Act, which officially established the National Cooperative Extension System. Activities are being planned throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia to commemorate the centennial in 2014. Events will be held in local communities, recognition of our Extension volunteers, and even a Virginia Cooperative Extension Day on May 8! Check this site frequently for periodic centennial updates and articles about Virginia Cooperative Extension programs and events.
Household Water Quality Testing Program
The Essex Unit of Virginia Cooperative Extension will offer the Household Water Quality Testing Program this summer. The objective of the Virginia Household Water Quality Program (VAHWQP) is to improve the water quality and health of Virginians using private water supplies. Initiated in 1989, VAHWQP drinking water clinics have been conducted in nearly every county across Virginia, and samples from about 16,000 households have been analyzed and results confidentially returned to participants. The best part: your water test results are explained in a helpful meeting, where ways of preventing contamination and treating water quality problems are also addressed. See the attached flier for more details.
