Mena has many years of nutrition and health education experience in both the clinical and community settings. The variety of work experiences have given her the opportunity to develop, implement and evaluate health and nutrition programs for a wide-range of audiences, including cross-culturally. She is passionate about providing individuals with practical nutrition and health information that is easily applied to daily life so that long term healthy life-style habits are created.


From 1988 to 1999 she worked in Peru, South America as an overseas representative for the International Mission Board. During her time there, she was able to design and implement human needs projects and nutrition education programs.


Some of the results of her work have been published in the American Journal of Public Health. She received her bachelor's degree in food service management from Georgia Southern University and master's degree in nutrition at Winthrop University in 1982. She is a Registered Dietitian with the American Dietetic Association. She is active with her professional organization and is currently serving as the President-elect for the Virginia Dietetic Association.
