Work Experience

After graduating from Virginia Tech, Jim joined his father and brother on the family dairy, beef and tobacco farm in Bland & Smyth Counties of Virginia. Jim joined Virginia Cooperative Extension in 2003, but was called to active duty four months later. He then served as an Engineer Platoon Leader in Iraq until the spring of 2005. Upon completion of active duty, Jim returned to the Virginia Cooperative Extension in his former position. Currently, Jim continues to serve in the Army Reserves as Executive Officer with A Company, 463rd EN BN, in Marion, Virginia. Jim is continuing his education by pursuing a master's degree from Virginia Tech and is still actively involved with the family farm.
