Family Focus is an organization that provides support and strengthens families and promotes the well being of children through community-based and culturally sensitive prevention services.
Family Focus provides an array of services to families which includes parent education classes, support groups for parents and caregivers, home visits, teen parent support within the schools, preschool programs and parent-child interactive learning groups.
Established in 1983 and endorsed by the VA Department of Social Services Family Violence Prevention Program, Family Focus has been a prevention program of the Colonial Services Board with locations in York County and Williamsburg for over 25 years. The mission of Family Focus is to support and strengthen families and promote the well being of children through community based, culturally sensitive services for families with young children. The goal of the program is to promote the healthy development of families through parent support and education. Services are designed to reduce parent isolation by increasing parent to parent support and link families to valuable community resources. Parent/child interactive playgroups and parenting classes increase parental knowledge of child behaviors and development, promote nurturing child management skills, reduce parental stress and enhance the parent-child relationship. Children develop self control, social skills and school readiness.
