Work Experience:
Prior to becoming an ANR extension agent for Virginia Cooperative Extension, Katie was a graduate research assistant in the Forestry Department (College of Natural Resources) at Virginia Tech. Here she completed a master’s project involving research in coal mine land reclamation, hayland/pasture establishment and renovation, and reforestation. While a student she worked on a local Christmas tree farm, gaining experience in the production and management of choose-and-cut and wholesale Christmas tree and greenery operations. Other notable work experience includes a position with the National Park Service, Blue Ridge Parkway as a Biological Science Technician where she worked with the agricultural lease specialist on the management of farm lands along the Blue Ridge Parkway in both Virginia and North Carolina.
