Through educational programs based on research and developed with input from local stakeholders, we help the people of Madison County improve their lives.

We provide education through programs in Agriculture and Natural Resources, Family and Consumer Sciences, 4-H Youth Development, and Community Viability.

Virginia Cooperative Extension Celebrates the 100th Anniversary of the Smith-Lever Act

Join Virginia Cooperative Extension as it celebrates the 100th anniversary of the Smith-Lever Act, which officially established the National Cooperative Extension System. Activities are being planned throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia to commemorate the centennial in 2014. Events will be held in local communities, recognition of our Extension volunteers, and even a Virginia Cooperative Extension Day on May 8! Check this site frequently for periodic centennial updates and articles about Virginia Cooperative Extension programs and events.

Well Water Testing Program

The Orange County Extension Office is offering a Drinking Water Testing Clinic. The purpose of the Virginia Household Water Quality Program is to improve the water quality of Virginians with private water supplies. These include wells, springs and cisterns. Participants attend a short informational meeting on April 20th at 6:30p.m. to learn about collecting the water sample, pay a $49 testing fee and obtain their sampling kit. The following morning, April 21st from 8:00 a.m.-10:00 a.m., participants bring samples of their water to the Orange County Extension Office (located at 146 Madison Road across from McDonalds in the town or Orange). An informational program on May 27that 6:30 p.m. will explain results. The fee of $49 is to be paid on or before the April 20th meeting.
