The Middlesex County office of Virginia Cooperative Extension is your local connection to Virginia's land-grant universities, Virginia Tech and Virginia State University.

Through educational programs based on research and developed with input from local stakeholders, we help the people of Middlesex County improve their lives.

We provide education through programs in Agriculture and Natural Resources, Family and Consumer Sciences, 4-H Youth Development, and Community Viability.

Language Interpretation Services Now Available

If you have limited English skills, do not let that stop you from visiting an Extension office. If you have difficulty speaking or understanding English, our staff can serve you by connecting you to one of our Extension agents through a telephone-based interpreter. Interpretation for more than 200 languages is provided. This service is free to our clients. Read more

Middlesex/Mathews Food Challenge Day Camp

June 21-23, 2016

Middlesex and Mathews Counties will be teaming up to do a Food Challenge Day Camp. Youth will learn kitchen safety, how to read and write recipes, come up with their own recipes, and compete in food making challenges.

Ages: Youth: 9-13; Teen Counselors: 14-18

State 4-H Congress — "Tell Your Story"

When: June 27-30, 2016

Cost: $215 (includes lodging (3 nights), meals (Monday dinner - Thursday breakfast), workshops and t-shirt)

Ages: 14 to 18 years old

Where: Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA

The mission of Virginia 4-H State Congress is to provide competitive and non-competitive educational experiences to Virginia teens and the adults who work with them, helping them to develop life skills and leadership abilities to become contributing citizens in their communities. Participants will attend workshops of their choosing in areas such as Animal Science, Leadership, Healthy Living, Environmental Education/Outdoor Education, etc. Teens will also attend College Career Track Workshops. They will get a tour of one of the many colleges at Virginia Tech; College of Engineering, College of Agriculture, Military Connections, and many more.

State 4-H Congress is an excellent opportunity to to learn leadership and citizenship skills, all while getting the college experience.

2016 Middlesex Junior 4-H Camp

When: Aug. 15-19, 2016

Where: Jamestown 4-H Educational Center, Williamsburg, VA

Who: Any boy or girl, age 9-13 (as of September 30, 2016) AND teen counselors ages 14-18 (as of January 1, 2016)

Cost: $235.00 covers everything: meals, lodging, programs, t-shirt, and bus ride to & from camp.

How do you sign up?
Send registration form and $65 deposit* to the Middlesex County Extension Office. You may pay the full camp fee ($235) at registration or make payments. All payments are due by July 1st. If you register during the month of July, full payment must be made.
