Crystal Barber
Education and Degrees
Crystal Barber received her B.S. degree from Virginia State University in Food Marketing and Management. Her M.N.S. degree is from Clemson University in Human Nutrition. She is currently pursuing a Doctorate of Health Care Education at Nova Southeastern University which has involved ongoing research in the area of distance education.
Work Experience
Prior to Crystal joining Virginia Cooperative Extension, she was a maternal and Child Health Nutritionist at Norfolk and Portsmouth Health Departments. She also was a distance education instructor in the Dept. of Human Sciences at North Carolina Central University. She taught undergraduate courses for Foods and Nutrition programs at Norfolk State University, Johnson & Wales University, and Virginia State University. She also worked as a wellness nutrition consultant, a provider of Medical Nutrition Therapy Services for Medicare, and a certified group exercise instructor.
Professional Associations
Crystal is currently a member of the Minority Health Coalition and Tidewater Nutrition Council.
Personal Information
Crystal was honored as one of the women of "strength and valor" in Health, Wellness & Nutrition during March 2004, Women's History month.
In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, jogging and listening to music.
