We provide education through programs in Agriculture and Natural Resources, Family and Consumer Sciences, 4-H Youth Development, and Community Viability.

Virginia Cooperative Extension Celebrates the 100th Anniversary of the Smith-Lever Act

Join Virginia Cooperative Extension as it celebrates the 100th anniversary of the Smith-Lever Act, which officially established the National Cooperative Extension System. Activities are being planned throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia to commemorate the centennial in 2014. Events will be held in local communities, recognition of our Extension volunteers, and even a Virginia Cooperative Extension Day on May 8! Check this site frequently for periodic centennial updates and articles about Virginia Cooperative Extension programs and events.

4-H Afterschool Program Greenhouse Adventures

This 6-week program is designed for 5th-8th graders and starts Tuesday, September 23. This is a great opportunity to see how much fun horticulture can be!

Now is the time to get involved in one of Powhatan’s 4-H Clubs! Contact the Powhatan Extension Office for details.

A new Cloverbud 4-H Club starts in mid-September for boys and girls ages 5-8. There are still a few spots left so call today!

Powhatan Master Gardener Training

We are now accepting applications for Master Gardener Training for 2015.  We will start training sessions starting Tuesday January 13, 2015 and meet every Tuesday and Friday through March.

More information is available on the State program on the Virginia Master Gardner Program Home Page: hort.vt.edu/mastergardener

Training fees are $135.00 and the deadline for Applications is November 1, 2014.
