Roanoke Innovative Leadership

Local leaders understand the skills and characteristics needed to serve their community and that community growth and prosperity are linked to a strong leadership network.  The structure of Innovative Leadership is easily adaptable and allows each community to create a program that meets its goals and is open to all its residents.

Developed by Virginia Cooperative Extension, Innovative Leadership:  Building Community Connections, provides participants with the opportunity to:

  • Build their leadership skills.
  • Increase their awareness of community issues.
  • Network with other leaders.
  • Become more engaged in community, civic, and governmental activities.

Innovative Leadership:  Building Community Connections curriculum includes six leadership modules requiring approximately three hours for each session.  Participants also complete a team project that requires outside work between class sessions.

Roanoke Innovative Leadership encourages the participation of city residents and neighborhood leaders with an interest in furthering their leadership skills and community understanding so as to better contribute to neighborhood and community groups and governance.
