The Stafford County office of Virginia Cooperative Extension is your local connection to Virginia's land-grant universities, Virginia Tech and Virginia State University.

Through educational programs based on research and developed with input from local stakeholders, we help the people of Stafford County improve their lives.

We provide education through programs in Agriculture and Natural Resources, Family and Consumer Sciences, 4-H Youth Development, and Community Viability.

Virginia Cooperative Extension Celebrates the 100th Anniversary of the Smith-Lever Act

Join Virginia Cooperative Extension as it celebrates the 100th anniversary of the Smith-Lever Act, which officially established the National Cooperative Extension System. Activities are being planned throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia to commemorate the centennial in 2014. Events will be held in local communities, recognition of our Extension volunteers, and even a Virginia Cooperative Extension Day on May 8! Check this site frequently for periodic centennial updates and articles about Virginia Cooperative Extension programs and events.

2014 Master Gardener Course

The 2014 Master Gardener Course begins September 9. The classes will be held Tuesday and Thursday mornings for twelve weeks. Please review the Becoming a Master Gardener Brochure below for more information about the Master Gardener Program. Is Your Lawn Out of Control?

Then you need the Smart Green Lawns Program!

When you sign up for Smart Green Lawn by registering and paying a nominal fee a

Master Gardener Volunteer will come and:

• Collect a soil sample

• Measure your total lawn area

 You will receive

• A Smart  Green Lawn care handbook

• A customized lime & fertilizer plan for your lawn

The Smart Green Lawn Program will help you learn turf fertilization, maintenance practices and timing that prevent problems based on the research conducted at Virginia Tech and Virginia State Universities.
