Warren County 4-H Horse Judging & Hippology Team Wins Big in 2009
Five Warren County youth from the Go-As-You-Please Riders 4-H Club competed successfully this year at contests around Virginia on the Warren County 4-H Horse Judging & Hippology Team. Contests are open to all 4-H members in two age divisions: Juniors (those age 13 and under on Jan. 1, 2009) and Seniors, (age 14 or older on Jan. 1, 2009). In hippology contests youth are asked to take a written exam and complete identification stations on various aspects of horse management (feeds, tack, disciplines, health issues, and more) and complete a team problem. In judging contests youth have to evaluate and then rank groups of horses from best to worst, with the official rankings determined by a panel of judges from the industry. In addition, these students must justify their rankings on several of these classes by providing an oral presentation of their reasons to the same judge’s panel. The Warren County Junior team consisted of Rachel Dominguez, Brooke Duvall, Melissa Lloyd, Rachel Paulisch and Michaela Yowaiski.
