Join Virginia Cooperative Extension as it celebrates the 100th anniversary of the Smith-Lever Act, which officially established the National Cooperative Extension System. Activities are being planned throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia to commemorate the centennial in 2014. Events will be held in local communities, recognition of our Extension volunteers, and even a Virginia Cooperative Extension Day on May 8! 2014 Peninsula Master Gardener training
Peninsula Master Gardener Training application due July 15, 2014!
Residents of Gloucester, Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson and York can apply now for the Peninsula Master Gardener Training, which will take place Tues. and Thurs., September 2 – November 13. The course fee of $110 covers the handbook and other materials.

Fescue lawn clinics are FREE and open to the public. All you need to do is
pre-register with the York-Poquoson Extension Office. See the schedule below.
Clinics begin at 10:00 a.m. at the site and will last approximately 2 hours. Please bring a lawn chair for your comfort.

Sally Upton, New 4-H Agent
We're very excited to announce the hiring of a 4-H Agent for York-Poquoson! Sally Upton comes to us with a variety of experience. She has a B.S. in Biology from the College of Idaho and a M.S. in Marine Science from the College of William and Mary, Virginia Institute of Marine Science. She has worked as an Education Specialist with the Chesapeake Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve and she spent two years as a 4-H agent with Utah State University Cooperative Extension.
Sally will be splitting her time between the James City County office and the York-Poquoson office.
